"Mommy Blogging… I don’t love it."

On Sunday night we had the great fortune to eat an amazingly delicious dinner with our dear friends Nate & Chica. While eating Nate sensitively informed me that my blog had indeed turned into a “Mommy Blog”, which I had vowed to avoid. Chica then jumped in and told me I was “not that bad” and managed to name several mutual friends who had “mommy blogs” that were “not that bad”. Chica also assured me she still read my blog, but Nate wasn’t shy to admit that he has kicked me right out of his RSS.

As I sat later that evening and pondered this dilemma, I realized that most of the “problem” stemmed from spending all my time with Harmon. Now this is not really a problem, other than most of what I think about are baby things and my available time to blog has been significantly reduced. So, here’s a resolution to bring more balance to this blog, as I would be sad to find I had lost any more Nate’s out there. So you can now expect a “mommy/rude letters to strangers/really great stories having nothing to do with babies (probably)” blog. Oh Nate, you’ll understand someday when you have kids.

As such, here is a letter for you:

Dear WSDOT,

I understand that probably someday you will be adding a new lane to 405 between our exit (#9) and the Coal Creek exit, but I was just wondering if you could possibly make it any unsafer in the meantime? It was one thing when you took away the nice on-ramp to speed up on, making it virtually impossible to merge without getting mauled by a Mack truck. But then you decided you needed a yield sign, making those cars already in the lane on the freeway thinking that it’s ok to run you off the road. But now you have added a barrier(!) so now I cannot even see my impending doom. It’s scary enough driving in the Seattle area, can’t we cut out the blind merging? Seriously.

Waiting impatiently for the new lane,
Kelsey

PS I realize the snowstorm slowed you down, but it’s not snowing anymore, why aren’t you working?

You know you’re a shut-in when…

You are watching TV and it says “the snow continues” and you don’t believe it so instead of looking outside you check the weather on the internet, and then when it confirms this, you then go to look outside and are shocked when you pull up the blinds and there is an inch of snow.

2 Months of Giantness

Tomorrow we celebrate the great anniversary of two months since Harmon’s entry out into the world. In honor of such an event we saw the pediatrician today and would like to report the following statistics:

Weight: 13 lbs 6 oz (75-90%) (90ish)
Height: 25 inches (97%)
Head Circumference: (75-90%) (83ish)

We are proud of our giant, as he manages to keep a trim waist and be the tallest baby of the bunch. They told us he will start to taper off in height to his genetically predetermined height, but we’re convinced that height is super tall. Also the pediatrician (whom we had never met before, our was out of town) stroked my ego by telling me that I produced the largest baby ever naturally delivered.

I love this baby. He really is the best most greatest baby ever. No offense to other babies or my future children. He’s just real awesome.

Why Snow Sucks Sometimes

Because sometimes your husband is out driving to get you Christmas presents and slides down a hill and gets his car totaled :( All parties were not hurt, unless you count 2 month old trucks, and other people’s jeeps, then those were hurt. Does anyone know a good body shop?

VAB

G-Pop (That’s what my dad insists on being called, and since he doesn’t read this blog, we can all openly laugh about it) calls Harmon a “VAB” or Very Advanced Baby. I just figure he stayed in a month too long and that’s why he can do all the strange and strong things he does. Last night for example I put him to bed on his back and went to the bathroom, I came back to him fully turned to his side. I thought perhaps Aaron had done it, but it turns out that Harmon just decided to tell us that back sleeping for sids prevention is not for him. Each time in the night when put back to sleep he did the same thing. I suppose I should just start him out on his side and save him the trouble, but that won’t get those ab muscles a good enough work out.

Thanksgiving was great, Uncle Caelin managed to get Harmon to laugh for the first time. And the day after I was treated to some great smiling in response to my own lovely smile. Laughing before smiling? I guess Uncle Caelin is pretty funny.

Not much else to report. I tried to measure him today and came up with 25″. Here are some pictures so all grandparents can rejoice. More can be found here if you are really obsessed and want to see his entire portfolio.

He’s smiling at you

Mr. Muscles does his workout

Now he’s laughing at you

He enjoys relaxing on the couch in his 3-6 month sized clothes

He loves his Aunt Billie. She is a natural. She should make cousins.
