Spanish Keyboards

My least favorite thing about Ecuador is the Spanish keyboards in internet cafes because you can never find the at symbol.

In better news we made it here alive and safe with all of our massive luggage. We actually didn´t get to the highest weight limit, I was kind of disappointed with my packing skills. But we are here, made it to Quito last night and Cuenca today. We have already been to see a couple apartments, figured out requirements to open a bank account, and hung out with the Roseros.

Sammy (Rosero) didn´t get home from school until 5, so when she got there we hid upstairs and Lorena called her to come up. She came up and hugged Lorena and I snuck out and she screamed and we hugged for a long time. It was great. I forgot to mention Lorena, Rodrigo & Ismael were waiting for us at the airport. Man I love them.

Anyway, this internet is being bad, so I will sign out. Tomorrow we will surprise Sor Teresa, open a bank account, and hopefully look at more places to live. I can´t wait until we have interent to use my own blessed keyboard. Chao.

26 Days

I just consulted the countdown Aaron has on the whiteboard and its only 26 days until we leave. Its pretty exciting, but I feel kind of overwhelmed because our house doesn’t look like it will be ready in 6 months let alone 26 days. And just how are you supposed to pack for 6 months? I have one suitcase half packed and find myself taking things out and “trading” things every day or so. Today I decided taking a heating pad is stupid, but a pack of index cards is a good idea. It will be interesting to see what finally ends up in there. I figure it will be a pack of index cards, a heating pad, and probably my wedding dress the way I’m going.

Aaron says he’s angry right now because only Dog the Bounty Hunter is on TV. Obviously I have nothing important to write about, and am avoiding some form of work.

I just thought of something exciting. Lorena and Rodrigo aren’t telling Sammy that we are coming, and her birthday is the day before we arrive. So, I will call and tell her I sent her something and she should watch for it. And then we show up. Ta-da. Lorena also says they have been looking for an apartment or house for us to rent nearby their house. Ok enough rambling, gotta get some laundry done. But just know its 602 hours 34 minutes and 21 seconds until we get to leave. Not that we’re counting.

Adios amigos

Well obviously we are no good at keeping up on our blog. But we finished our honeymoon and it was great. Someday we will open our hotel on Naxos in Greece. You should all come visit, it will be awesome.

Aaron just told me we are only supposed to update our blog from cyber cafes anyway so I’m off the hook for not posting any more since then.

So why am I writing now? Well… Somehow I conivnced Aaron to move to Ecuador. So this is our official annoucement that we bought tickets and will be leaving October 14th. The plan thus far is to make a 6 month go of it, re-evaluate, and go from there. What are we going to do? Lots of things. Aaron will be doing one of many things: telecommuting, writing a program to sell, training Ecuadorians how to have computer skills, or perhaps a combination of those or something else entirely. Me? I’ll be working on phase one of saving the world, Project Ecuador. Aaron tries to remind me that I can’t save the whole world, but I don’t believe him yet. I’m going to be doing some combination of: running a self-esteem class for teenage girls at the orphanage, art/music/gym classes for the toddler/young orphans, running mothers groups, teaching English, teaching computer skills to ladies so they can have jobs and not have to send their babies to orphanages, teenage mother classes, or one of the other twenty ideas I have rolling around in my head. So, you are all officially invited to come visit us between October 15th and April 12th. Here is our understatement of the week for you: We are pretty excited.

So that’s our life right now. I have heard requests for more wedding photos, so if you really want to see one million photos, here is the new website where they should stay indefinately:
Kelsey & Aaron’s Wedding Photos

Maybe someday soon I will put our honeymoon pictures online too. But I have less than two months to get ready to move to Ecuador so the likelihood of that is kind of slim. Anyway. That’s all I have to blog about today.

Honeymoon Part 2

Look we found our way back to a computer. We are on Naxos in Greece. We just spent 4 or so days in Santorini and loved it. We spent most of our time in the place we stayed, a little town called Oia, which seems to exist soley for the likes of us tourists, but it was great anyway. We spent some time down the hill (the city is on a big cliff) at Amoudi where the fishing boats tie up for the night. We had some good swims and Aaron had fun snorkling around, but it was not too colorful. There was a tiny island you had to swim out to, and only Aaron was brave enough, but it had a tiny chapel carved into it, which someone had spent a lot of time on. The floor was paved with small smooth black and white stones, arranged in patterns like a ship, spears, compass, etc. He says it was really amazing. Sometime when I am not afraid of strong currents and deep sea creatures when we are there again maybe I will take a look too.

We love to eat here (and at home). There is a dip appetizer called Tzatziki which is made out of yogurt, shredded cucumbers, garlic, olive oil, and occasionally dill or carrots too. YUM. We eat it at every meal. Aaron says “I love it, it’s the best”. No, no “It’s the best, I love it”. We will be learning how to make it when we come home so maybe you can try some too. We have been eating a lot, so we are full and fat all the time.

I’m sure we did more stuff in Santorini, like riding the donkeys up the steep hill, taking scary trams down the cliff side and jumping off high rocks into the water, but I can’t remember what else.

Today we got on a ferry and came to Naxos. We were acosted at the port by over-eager hotel owners trying to convince us to stay at their hotels. We gave in and now are staying at a hotel far from the beach with no pool. Oops. We also didn’t bring our drivers licenses because we didn’t want to lose them but they won’t rent us mopeds without them. That brings us to right now where we are waiting for the fax of our licences that dad is working on sending so we can ride around in style. Naxos is a big island and we’d like to get out of town to the far away less populated beaches and towns. Oh yeah, we went swimming here too. Lots of people at the beach. Many elderly women without tops on. Yikes.

Ok. I think that’s it we’re going to go check on our fax and get some scooters and stop wasting time in the internet cafe. Chao.

Honeymoon

Isn’t that sweet, we have our own blog. So this is our blog from our honeymoon to say that we are alive and not dead. We have been to Paris. It took a really long time to get there, and making ourselves adjust to the new time was not really fun at all. But we saw all the Parisy sights like the Eiffel Tower, Louve & Orsay Museums, Arc de Triumphe, Notre Dame, the Seine River, and all that great stuff. We ate at the cafes and got laughed at by the french people. Mind you we didn’t remember to bring any sort of French phrase book nor maps nor guides. Mostly it was just us wandering around saying “what did Chica say we should do?” “Parlez vouz anglais? (please don’t cringe in horror at my French writing, I promise its better than my French speaking) And other than feeling sick about 50% of the time we managed to do a lot and have fun in a couple days time. Probably my favorite part was when we were at the Eiffel Tower and just about to walk off to have dinner and all of a sudden it started flashing all over. There are lights all over and from what I can figure from about dusk every hour or so it flashes its lights for 10 or so minutes? I don’t know, I didn’t really sit around and time it, that’s just from a couple observations. Aaron claims we are masters of the Paris Metro and Bus system, I think probably they just have pretty good maps that are easy to read. Anyway. I think Aaron said his favorite part was going to the Orsay Museum and seeing all the impressionist paintings in real life. It was pretty cool. Or maybe he just liked that they were closing and had an area blocked off but the woman wasn’t looking and we ducked under and ran through the exhibit really fast. Normally I don’t get dragged into things like that, but you can’t say the museum closes at 6 and try to throw everyone out at 530. Not cool.

So probably we did lots more things in Paris worth writing about, but I can’t remember because that was a few days ago.

Now we are in Santorini. We flew into Athens yesterday and took a (not very) high-speed ferry here this morning. I don’t think that 30 knots should be considered high speed, but I guess its all relative. They have a neat trick on the boat where more than half the boat is “business class” so if you happen to have a reservation for a hotel on Santorini and want to get there before dark you will open up your wallet and let them take your money away to sit in business class. Granted, it did have more leg room and the seats reclined farther, but being right next to the smoking area wasn’t the most enjoyable thing. Now we are hanging out at our ultimately fancy hotel. Somehow Aaron convinced me we needed to stay here because there is a pool in the room, and I do love to swim. He’s outside painting the view. I don’t know why I’m still in here, I’m going to stop writing now. I just had intention to say we are alive and well, but I got carried away. I’m going to spend 1.5 minutes seeing if I can put pictures on here, but if not, you can see them when I get home.

And if you really miss knowing what I look like, the photographer put some picutres of us on her website: www.donnellyimages.com click on the portfolio, then weddings, and you will find us scattered throughout there. Ok ok we are pictures 1, 2, 12, 14, 21, 22, 31, and the last one on the strip which is like 70 or something I lost track.

Maybe I will write again if it rains. Haha right.
