Horizontal Brain

So, it seems every time I lay down, my brain works 200 times better. I remember all the things I need to do. Everything that needs to be cleaned. Every errand I need to run. That we are out of pepper. Where that missing sock is. What I want to research on google. Really hilarious and awesome blog posts.

But then I get up. And my brain does not work. Vertical brain = no brain. When I have a free moment for the internet I can’t seem to use it to look up booster seats, because I don’t remember that Harmon hates his high chair. I don’t remember to switch the laundry, because it has been exiled from my consciousness. I forget to call the insurance lady and make sure Sammy is on insurance. Bottom line, my brain only works when horizontal, and it’s really annoying. Anyone else suffer from this syndrome? It’s ok HBers, we can form a support group once we have admitted to our problem.

Oh, and if you ever see me lying on the floor at the grocery store, no need to worry that I’ve passed out. I’m just trying to remember how much milk is in the fridge at home.

it's nice that someone has now been able to describe a syndrome I have suffered from for so long. Just having a name to it makes me feel as if there is hope. What's step 2?

I am in the denial stage of acceptance. Why would my brain be so cruel as to work extra hard at the only 2 hours of sleep time I get?!?! This is why I am blogging in bed instead of sleeping.

haha… i'm glad to know i'm not the only one! sometimes i just put a piece of paper and a pen on my nightstand and then i scribble down all the things i think of while lying there in the dark. i can't always read what what i wrote the next day, but it helps me get to sleep at least!

:-) I love your diagnosis. Awesome term.

Horizontal Brain is why writers keep a notebook by the bed. I started doing it because I would think of something brilliant, say "I can remember that in the morning" and then I never do. 😀

I hate the HB syndrome. I always solve world hunger right before I fall asleep only to wake up the next morning and forget to call my grandmother again.

Sigh. I think it's more a function of adulthood than verticality.
