Swimming at last!

Today is June 20th. I finally got in the lake today. This is probably the latest I have ever got in the lake. It was a bit chilly at first, but it was so hot outside that it was good. I was quite happy, and hope that tomorrow’s weather forecast holds true so I can do it again.

In other news, here is a letter to my neighbor, or anyone this is true for:

Dear neighbor a couple houses down,

I hope you don’t find this letter judgmental, but really it is NOT ok for you to drink your beers (yes plural, I see you with both one in hand and the one your son is bringing you) while driving three young boys tubing behind your boat. If this were a car, you would be arrested. I don’t really see any difference. If I was your wife or parents of one of the children (I think one isn’t yours) I would beat the living daylights out of you. It doesn’t matter to me that everyone else does it, that doesn’t make it ok. Maybe you don’t watch the news, but if you did you would know about the stories of all the boating accidents and deaths because people were drinking. You are now safely on your dock, but my husband is out there swimming, as well as other well meaning people enjoying the water that have no desire for death or disfigurement, so please, for all of us (ESPECIALLY YOUR OWN CHILDREN) KNOCK IT OFF!!!!!!!!

With much rage,
Kelsey

P.S. I’m not saying that you are drunk, or even seem to be. I’m just saying don’t be an idiot. Because we all know if I thought you were out of control I would have been on your dock yelling at you before you even left. And then calling CPS. And then reminding you how your stupid little dog pooped on our lawn this week. But that would just be a side note, the dog pooping.

Aaron just interrupted my blogging yelling from outside. The eagles are fighting again, Aaron says he saw 7, by the time I got out I saw 4 bald eagles and 1 brown/golden eagle. And they are swooping the water, kinda near Aaron. I think they want him for dinner. I won’t write them a letter, because we all know eagles can’t read.

Hey, did I mention swimming today? It was awesome. You should come over and swim with me tomorrow.

I was going to say unbelievable, but no, it’s believable. I don’t get anyone who will put other people at risk, especially their family, by drinking alcohol while driving a motor vehicle of any kind. If the harbor police caught the idiot he would have been arrested.

FYI: “The penalties for BUI are less harsh than that of a DUI. It is a misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $1,000.00 fine.” (I am not smart — just looked it up out of curiosity.)

On the other hand, a little vigilantism would be satisfying, “is a person who ignores due process of law and enacts his or her own form of justice” (via wikipedia — tee hee)

Speaking of laws, I sometimes fantasize going back to the pillory, where a criminal was locked into a device with just their head and hands sticking out of it — in the middle of town. The punishment would be public humiliation, and often resulted in physical abuse (limited to pummeling them with fruits and vegetables. I think there would be fewer crimes.

We could have pillory stations set up in various populated locations: Seattle Center, just outside Safeco Field, all major malls, airports, etc.

Wow — I would throw a tomato at a law-breaker! However, the owner of the dog that pooped in your yard would be clobbered with a watermellon!

I think it’s actually legal to consume alcoholic beverages while operating a boat. It’s just not legal to be over the limit. Don’t shoot me, I’m just the messenger.

It seems you are correct mother. As long as you are not “under the influence” which is defined as the .08% like driving. But I would propose that it is not enforced, except after accidents happen, which is too late. ALSO don’t drink and drive while your kids and kids friends are tubing and you are the only adult. JUST DON’T. I stand by that.

I don’t have a boat, so I won’t be in danger of boating under the influence.

Or boating at all, for that matter.

How about blogging? Blogging under the influence? Is there a penalty for that besides social ostracism and ridicule?
