Sometimes I find myself listening to songs on the radio that I think I shouldn’t. Not for inappropriate content reasons (although maybe I should look into that…) but because I find that when I listen to these songs I have to make sure my windows are up so that no one can hear what I am listening to. Since when did I become so embarrassed about my musical taste?
I’d like to pretend I listen to really cool stuff all the time. You know, like Smashing Pumpkins and Snow Patrol. (I know, that doesn’t sound cool to you.) Stuff that I would gladly tell anyone that I like. But apparently I am ashamed of about half of what I listen to. So, to publicly shame myself, I am going to confess some of what I am listening to (in the car, with the windows rolled up of course). I do this in hopes that if I can tell the entire www, then maybe I don’t have to be so embarrassed when I am driving next to complete strangers that I will never see again.
Here are a few that come to my mind (I know there are LOTS more):
*Shakira – Hips Don’t Lie (oh the shame)
*Jay Z – Forever Young (it’s so awful)
*Jason Derulo – What’cha Say (I can’t believe I just wrote that)
*Kanye West – Heartless (ok, and The Fray’s cover)
I am still unwilling to admit which Black Eyed Peas, Taylor Swift, and Justin Timberlake songs I may or may not be partial to. I have to go hide in shame now. Or listen to The Fray’s cover. Hard to pick.
Your turn, confess!
LOL! I am also partial to Hips Don't Lie, as well as most Pink songs, and some Black Eyed Peas songs. But, no, I'd never admit that in a conversation. 😉 Oh, AND, for some reason, I like that stupid song Hollaback Girl, which is supremely embarrassing and dumb. Yes, it's shameful, isn't it?
I'm just relieved not to see Justin Bieber on your list!
Have you not yet gone public with your decade long jay z crush?
Jacki, are you trying to get out of answering the question by asking me another question?
I love this post as this is something I bring up in conversations regularly.
I call it "guilty pleasure" music.
There is no shame in it.
Everyone has their guilty pleasures.
I myself take it one step further and even attend concerts of my guilty pleasures.
Have you ever gone to a concert and realized that you were the only person in the audience over the age of 16?
I have. On several occasions in fact.
And I had a blast.
(If you ever wondered if Katy Perry is as fun to watch live as she is in her videos, the answer is yes.)
Like I said, no shame.
Keep it real Kelsey. Embrace it.
PS. Here are some of my favorite guilty pleasures:
Madonna
Paramore
Early nineties male and female R&B groups
and anything produced by Timbaland.
Don't you also like some Miley Cyrus songs?
No Esther, I can't believe you would even say that. Only one.
