4 (plus one) Calling Birds

The other night we were watching TV and heard a lot of bird noises coming from outside. It was still light out, but since when are birds going crazy at 8pm? Next we see a bald eagle fly by and think ‘maybe he’s getting bugged by crows’ which is something you see a lot, so we went out to check it out. Turns out this bald eagle was not getting bugged by crows, but instead we initially see two bald eagles in two different trees screaming at each other. Eventually they get out of their trees, and start flying around clawing/biting at each other. Within a few minutes three more show up, and they take turns flying around fighting each other and sitting in the tall trees yelling at the top of their lungs. I think the most bald eagles I have ever seen together was 3 we saw in Montana in April. But apparently 5 felt the territory around our house was worth fighting over, but maybe not, because we haven’t seen them again. Either way, it was pretty awesome.

Maybe we live on a wildlife preserve, because this morning I was watching this brown thing in the water, trying to determine if it was a log or beaver or otter or whatever, when it suddenly went under water and didn’t come back up. Anyway, the wildlife plus Napoleon the giant black dog who drools everywhere who comes to our door all the time makes for some good times with animals around here.

Gee… not many get the opportunity to see one eagle, let alone five. What a treat.
